Day 14: Brisbane

Sunday, 16 June 2013                                                                                                        0kms

We used the new gas burner we bought for the car at Anaconda to test it out today. With the new billy for boiling water for cups of tea on the road and it works really well. Perfect for the car.

We got El to do some school work even though it is Sunday and we are not supposed to. I also organised this fortnights work.

Day 9: Lennox Head

Tuesday, 11 June 2013                                                                                                34.1kms

The sun was out this morning thankfully, so I jumped up and had a shower which was fantastic before we set up and unpacked the van to let it dry out. Elokin then did her school work. I saw a whale while on the phone from the deck of Trish and Al’s house.

Once El was done, we headed down to Ballina to Supercheap Auto to sort out the winch. We could exchange it as they wouldn’t repair it, so Nath worked on taking it off the bulbar in the car park while I ducked into Aldi to grab some rolls to make lunch. Once we had eaten and exchanged winches, we headed to Nan-Nan’s for afternoon tea. Nan-Nan had excelled herself in the baking department. Every time we come through Ballina she gets me to put in our order and she has it ready by the time we get here. This time it was the usual- choc chip biscuits, anzacs and a sponge cake. She also gave us some coconut biscuits that she had made as well. When the dark clouds rolled over Nath got really concerned about the van getting wet, so he took the kids home while Nan-Nan and I closed up her house and followed them. When Al saw the pile of biscuits, he was in baked heaven. He had never seen so many biscuits. And everyone loved them! Nath packed down the van almost entirely by himself while I showed Nan-Nan around.

After she left and the van was packed away, it was almost dark. Elokin and Hendrix wanted to go for a swim, so Trish, Al, Holly and Pepe, their dog, got in their car, us in ours and headed down to the beach. They decided they didn’t want to swim so they went for a scooter along the foreshore walk. Holly rode her skateboard and the adults walked. Elokin’s scooter broke on the way back to the car, so we have to go to Ballina to buy a new one. It rained on us for nearly our entire walk, bit it only got heavy towards the end.

We had a bbq dinner and sponge cake for dessert. We then compared trip itineraries and we were very similar so that is great.
